    Armenian is the official language of Armenia, and is spoken as a first language by 97.7% of its population. Armenian belongs to an independent branch of the Indo-European language family.

    Eastern Armenian, the official language of Armenia, and Western (improperly called "Turkish") Armenian spoken mainly in the Armenian Diaspora.

    It has its own script, the Armenian alphabet, and is of interest to linguists for its distinctive phonological developments within Indo-European.
